Excellence in Long Term Care
W. R.
Winslow Memorial Home does indeed provide the most excellent care in the
surrounding community. The nursing home is a non-profit church owned and
operated facility. It is owned and operated by the Carolina Conference
of Seventh Day Adventist. Winslow Memorial, a skilled nursing facility
has been serving the elderly since 1960. In February of 2006, the
residents and staff began occupying a new building that was built about
1 mile south of the old building. An array of services are offered,
from in house transportation to Physical, Occupation, and Speech therapy
just to name a few. Having a low staff to patient ratio enables us to
give more attentive personal care. With a ratio of 1:7 we far exceed
the state regulation of 1:12. This means that to every seven residents
we have one CNA to take care of them.
The nursing home has had lots of stability with its administrators and
staff. In its history, the facility has only had 6 administrators and several 15
year plus employees. Employees enjoy working at Winslow and many have the
best things to say about the facility. Several employees have family
here in the nursing home. Because of the longevity and stability at
Winslow, they have over the years enjoyed a very close relationship with
those in this community.
Winslow Memorial has a
full activity calendar keeping everyone busy. Crafts and balloon volleys
are some of the favorites. Going fishing and out to eat are also high
on the favorite list. Many local churches are very involved with
residents at Winslow. At least two churches a week come and interact
with the residents, presenting some form of gospel singing program. We are located in scenic Elizabeth City, an area rich in
history, which is distinguished by its favorable climate, proximity to the
Outer Banks and southeastern Virginia, with the open waters of rivers and
the Albemarle Sound nearby. A cordial atmosphere welcomes newcomers and
visitors alike. The fine quality of life is enhanced by the availability
of a regional medical center, the affordability of recreational, and
cultural opportunities. Its livability is exemplary.
In fact, Elizabeth City was recently named one of the "100
Best Small Towns in America".
